The story of a pumpkin

If there is something I like in the autumn, it is its colours and cozy vibes at home, while the weather outside is changing. And when it comes to produce, what I really love about autumn is the pumpkin in all its shapes and sizes. Why? Well, it offers such a great versatility which can be shownon the table and in front of the camera.
Just like I use it in the kitchen, in both savoury and sweet meals, I use it in my food photography as the main hero or as the supporting cast. This definitely depends on the mood I am trying to create and on the meal I am trying to present.

Hokkaido Pumpkin and Parsnip Sou
Ingredients:
1 hokkaido pumpkin (around 500 grams)
2 pieces of parsnip (around 350 grams)
1 litre of water
Salt and pepper to taste
100 ml of cooking cream (optional)
Wash the parsnip and peel it and cut it into small pieces. Wash the hokkaido pumpkin thoroughly (you don’t have to peel it), cut it in halves and remove the seeds from the inside and then cut it into quarters. Put the parsnip and pumpkin pieces in a pot, pour the water and let it boil. Cook under the lid until the vegetables are tender. Remove from the heat, use the hand
blender to puree the mixture. Taste it and add salt and pepper and if you like cooking cream, you can add it to get a creamier texture. I don’t use it. Let the soup cook for additional 5 minutes and that’s it. Serve it warm and enjoy!

chocolate and pumpkin bundt

So, here is one of my favourite photos I have created. It is a small chocolate and
pumpkin bundt cake, which I decided to present through this action shot. As you can
see, the hero of the photo, the bundt cake here, does not function as the hero alone.
This powder sugar falling on it creates a whole with it. I supported it with ingredients
some chocolate and the pumpkin, this time butternut pumpkin, which has a sweet
taste so it is great in desserts. And to lead into the photo, I used some greenery,
which is deliberately out of focus. When it comes to colours, you can see that I used
analogous colours here with different hues and values, giving the photo a warm feel.

Hello, I am Alica, a food photographer in my free time. My food photography journey started more than 10 years ago when I bought my first DSLR camera, but only in 2020 did I actually delve into this field when I started learning about and using artificial light.
My biggest inspiration are fruits and veggies I regularly find at open-air markets. They
provide ideas regarding colours, shapes and combinations of the two. And I also love
to play and create scenes with various cakes and cookies, especially for Christmas. When it comes to cakes, I am a fan of bundt cakes their shapes and all the options they give regarding flavour combinations are just amazing.
I am very proud and happy to say that my photography journey was recognized last
year, when I won a gold medal at the Food Photography Awards in Tokyo.
